FAQ
Q. What is renewable electricity?
Renewable energy is exactly that; energy sources that can be renewed. These include solar energy and wind power. This is in stark contrast to fossil fuels such as gas and oil which are slowly running out.
Q. What is the difference between Solar Thermal and Solar PV (photovoltaic)?
Solar thermal systems are used to create hot water from solar energy using ‘collectors’, while solar PV uses energy from the sun to create electricity via photovoltaic panels.
Q. Do solar PV panels work even when it is cloudy?
Even when it’s entirely overcast, sunlight can penetrate clouds to provide solar energy for PV system.
Q. How does a photovoltaic system work?
To find out how photovoltaic systems work, visit our dedicated Solar PV system page.
Q. How is the electricity measured?
Whether through a conventional supplier or an energy efficient PV system, electricity is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
Q. What size system do I need?
This is something that we will discuss with you prior to installation, but the average household will need a system between 1kWp and 3kWp. If this is something you’d like further information on, please get in touch.
Q. How much will it cost?
It’s very difficult to give a definitive guide to prices as we quote for each project on an individual basis. That said, we’re more than willing to discuss your requirements over the phone and give you an estimated cost prior to visiting your home.
Q. Can I get a solar system if I live in a flat?
Despite this being more problematic than an average house installation, there is still a good chance that you’ll be able to benefit from solar energy. After a quick phone call for more detail, we will visit your home and assess your potential for a solar PV or solar thermal system.
Q. How will the panels be fitted to the roof?
There are three main ways of integrating solar panels into a roof, and you can find out more about each at the below links:

Q. Do I need planning permission in order to have solar panels installed?
In the vast majority of cases, solar panels can be installed without the need planning permission. The exceptions being world heritage sites, buildings in conservation sites and listed buildings.
As part of our visit to your home, we will asses whether you need planning permission or not and therefore it is important that you give as much information as possible at the earliest stage.
Q. Can I design and install a photovoltaic (PV) system myself?
You could, but there’s a fairly good chance that you would contravene relevant building regulations. Additionally, unless installed by an accredited professional such as those employed by Azure Eco, funding cannot be accessed and there’s a strong possibility that your solar PV system will dramatically underperform.
Q. What is a Feed-in Tariff (FIT)?
A feed in tariff acts as an incentive to home owners who invest in renewable energy sources.
You can find out more about them at the following link:
